Otherworld Guide

Otherworld guides bring Otherworld to life each day by engaging our guests, monitoring the exhibits, and operating our ticket office, cafe, and shop. Otherworld guides report to the operations managers and are responsible for providing magnificent guest service, monitoring the guests and exhibits, operating the ticket office, cafe and gift shop in addition to cleaning and maintaining the spaces.

The Guide team is just one part of Otherworld. Each part works together, helping out however is necessary to make Otherworld as successful as possible. We do this because we care about our community, believe in what we’re doing and enjoy making incredible experiences for our guests.

Pay: $15 per hour

Hours: 20-35 hrs per week

Digital Fabricator

Digital Fabricators are responsible for running Digital Design and Fabrication projects across all Otherworld locations. They will work under the Fabrication Director to create 3D models and build plans, and collaborate with and oversee the work of machine operators and assemblers to turn concept drawings into finish-ready products.

This job starts now. Regular travel is required.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the design team to create 3D models
  • Ensure proper fabrication of 3D models by operating, or collaborating with operators of CNCs, Hotwire, and 3D printers
  • Collaborate with Assembly Leads responsible for preassembly, packaging, and onsite assembly
  • Coordinate with the Project Directors on timelines, deliverables, shipping, and onsite assembly
  • Submit plans and regular reports for approval by Fabrication Director

Experience:

  • 5+ years of large-scale digital design and fabrication experience in arts, festivals or themed entertainment
  • Experience collaborating with fabricators, architects, and engineers
  • Must be proficient in CAD and CAM softwares like Aspire, Rhino 3D including Grasshopper, ZBrush
  • Should have experience operating hot wire, 4 axis CNC, 3 Axis CNC, Filament 3D Printers, Resign 3D Printers
  • Should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field

Art Director

The Art Director is responsible for the visual direction of all things Otherworld. They will work closely with Creative leads to bring high-level ideas and creative briefs to fully realized deliverables on time and within budget. They will manage a team of in-house and freelance concept artists, graphic designers, and animators in the design of large-scale interactive art installations, marketing materials, and other media.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the aesthetic backbone of Otherworld in partnership with Creative
  • Establish design standards as you build and direct a team of concept artists, animators, and graphic designer both in-house and freelance
  • Collaborate closely with Creative Directors, other Art Directors, Fabrication Leadership as installation concepts move through the production pipeline 
  • Create specification sheets, accurately noting dimensions and details for
    Fabrication teams to follow
  • Meet strict deadlines

 

Experience:

  • 10+ years Illustration and Design experience.
  • 5+ years managing creative teams
  • Experience collaborating with fabricators, technologists, and designers.
  • Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite including Illustrator, Photoshop,
    and Indesign.
  • Experience with modeling software like C4D, Blender, Z-Brush, Maya

VP Fabrication 

The VP Fabrication manages all construction related projects across Otherworld locations, including building new exhibits as well as maintaining and repairing existing ones. They will work with the design team to turn concepts into realized build plans. The VP Fabrication is responsible for sourcing materials, managing budgets, coordinating shipments and installs, delegating tasks to and overseeing the work of a full-time build crew of 40+ production artists. They will direct Project Managers and Metal, Textiles, Carpentry and Digital Fabrication Department leads in addition to coordinating tech integration with the Tech Director. They will work under the CEO and COFO, providing build plans and budgets for approval, in additional to regular reporting. This job starts now in Columbus. Frequent travel will be required.

Responsibilities:

  • manage a team of 40+ fabricators; find, interview, and hire new fabricators as needed
  • Create and implement processes for scalability within the build function
  • Able to prioritize competing and complex critical tasks
  • give input during creative design on feasibility
  • create and implement build plans based on concepts from the design team
  • establish and manage processes for sourcing materials, inventory, and managing project budgets
  • submit project plans and reports to CEO and COFO for approval
  • contract out work to freelance fabricators and shops
  • communicate with General Managers about exhibit repairs, maintenance, and upgrades
  • establish and manage processes for shipping, logistics, and installation of exhibits

 

Experience:

  • 10+ years of fabrication management experience in themed fabrication or similar builds
  • well versed in project management software like Asana
  • experience in large-scale fabrication
  • experience hiring, training, and leading teams for growth

Pay: $100K+ base salary, profit share, ESOP

CNC Operator 

  • Must be competent in the set up and operation of a 3-axis CNC router.
  • Familiarity with a Shopsabre 3-axis CNC router, and/or Frog3d equipment, (Frogwire and Frogmill) (or similar) is a plus.
  • Competency in 4-axis and 5-axis machining is a plus.
  • Ability to optimize material, labor and equipment usage.
  • Check all parts for accuracy prior to being passed on to the next department.
  • Understands goals and requirements sufficiently to make decisions regarding quality, tolerances, and sequence of operations.
  • Performs daily maintenance checks on all equipment.
  • Track, perform and schedule required maintenance.
  • Recommend possible equipment or process improvements quickly and clearly.
  • Maintains timely and accurate records and reports, as required.
  • Understands and adheres to corporate quality expectations.

Textile Fabricator

  • Experienced working with a wide range of textiles & related materials in different applications. Including: fur, spandex, PVC, vinyl, yarn, paper, glues, netting/mesh, soft foams and most other types of fabrics.  
  • Technical sewing skills such as; consistent and attractive stitchwork, sewing multiple layers together evenly & without tucks, installing zippers, top stitching, reinforced seaming, sewing in the round, creating casings, and sewing multiple layers together evenly. 
  • Experience operating industrial sewing machines. 
  • Be able to work with to-scale concept art and understand how the design would fill a 3D space & build accordingly. 
  • Follows artistic direction that is provided with the concept art. 
  • Ability to draft and assemble flat patterns.
  • Assemble the designs using best practices and highest standards.
  • Ability to assist in the optimization of materials and processes.
  • Produce quality products that look finished from all guest facing viewpoints.
  • Responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Lead Creative Developer – TouchDesigner

Installations at Otherworld are highly interactive and tech driven utilizing TouchDesigner, projection and LED mapping, custom microcontrollers, sensors, and motion tracking. The Lead Creative Developer will develop and implement immersive multimedia exhibits for Otherworld locations.

The candidate will collaborate with the design team to create tech narratives for multimedia rooms, bringing the narratives to realization through collaboration with in-house and freelance technical partners.

Post-integration of projects, the Lead Creative Developer will help streamline long-term maintenance strategies that ensure the longevity and stability of active multimedia exhibits across all locations. The goal being optimized back-end accessibility where most issues can be handled by unskilled attendants. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide creative input and proposals to the art/creative department
  • Ensure tech narratives are created according to the artistic vision
  • Develop interactive multimedia exhibits based on creative tech narratives
  • Collaborate with in-house and freelance technical developers and integrators
  • Oversee integration and testing before shipping and after onsite installation
  • Create and implement long-term maintenance strategies
  • Responsible for Programming optimization and documentation of technical processes

Experience:

  • 5+ years of experience developing and integrating interactive multimedia content
  • Expert-level TouchDesigner programming skills, including extensions, packaging, and collaboration
  • Expert-level Python experience
  • Proficient in C++
  • Proficient in projection and LED mapping
  • Deep understanding of and experience in simulation and 3D
  • Good understanding of 3D rendering in TouchDesigner
  • Experience with motion tracking technologies like LIDAR, Kinect, and Zedd
  • Experience with microcontrollers like Arduino, Raspberry Pi and Teensy
  • Some experience in After Effects and the Adobe suite

Welder / Metal Fabricator 

Job Description:

  • Experienced in working with a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and basic metal working equipment.
  • Review and understand technical drawings prior to the start of fabrication.
  • Welding experience and the ability to weld in a safe and effective manner is required.
  • Welding certification is a plus but not required.
  • Rigging experience is a plus.
  • Experienced with standard steel shapes and properties.
  • Experience with aluminum is preferred but not required..
  • Ability to assist in the optimization of materials and processes.
  • Produce quality products that are ready for the Prep and Paint departments without requiring excessive finishing.
  • Responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by supervisors.

Production Artist

Job Description:

  • Perform fabrication and painting of Otherworld exhibits according to Company quality and quantity standards
  • Collaborate closely and take direction from department leads and project managers
  • Perform ordering and receiving and other inventory tasks as assigned
  • Perform paint and textile touch ups
  • Assemble sculpted High-Density Foam and apply Hard-coat and Fiberglass
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work environment
  • Perform other related duties as required
